Max Muscato: A Story of Resilience, Music, and Advocacy
Max Muscato lives for the underdog. His journey is one of survival and transformation—overcoming a suicide attempt, a stabbing, addiction, and the challenges of growing up with a single father and an absent mother, all while caring for his autistic brother, Sonny. Sonny’s life took a turbulent turn into crime and gangs, ultimately leading to a confrontation with police in which he survived a gunshot wound. Through it all, Max has channeled his struggles into powerful music, confronting his demons head-on and refusing to be defined by hardship.
In response to his brother’s struggles, Max founded Rock Autism, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals on the autism spectrum and other neurodiverse individuals. The organization provides training in music and film, creating pathways to paid internships and employment in the entertainment industry—helping to prevent isolation, depression, addiction, incarceration, and suicide.
Now, Max returns to where it all began for Storyteller Night, performing songs from his feature film Sonnyboy and musical Monsters in My Head. Just blocks from this very spot, in 2013, his brother Sonny was shot—an event that ignited the movement for Rock Autism. From that moment, Max turned his pain into purpose, using music and film to tell his story. Now, he’s back to share it where it all started.
